OBITUARY
MR WALTER HENRY CLAPP. Mr Walter Henry Clapp, whose death occurred at Wellington on Wednesday in his 74th year, resided in Masterton several years ago and his good qualities earned him a wide circle of friends. As a member of the New Zealand Railways, prior to his retirement, he was stationed at Masterton, at Gisborne, at the Summit and at Napier. He retired from the service to live at Oringi and later took up residence at Johnsonville, and while in Masterton he resided at Lansdowne, some 25 years ago. His wife predeceased him several years ago. Two sons, Messrs Walter Clapp (Auckland), Leslie Clapp (Hamilton), and a daughter, Mrs Pratley (Johnsonville) survive Mr Clapp. The funeral took place in Masterton this afternoon. MRS BESSIE JANE WILLIAMS. / The death occurred at Masterton today of Mrs Bessie Jane Williams, widow of the late Mr Richard Thomas Saddler Williams. The late Mrs Williams, who was born 84 years ago, was the eldest daughter of pioneer settlers, the late Mr and Mrs George William Woodroofe, who took a prominent part in town affairs many years ago. Mr Woodroofe came to Masterton in the very early days. Mrs Williams, who had resided in Masterton all her life, was a prominent worker for the Knox Presbyterian Church and was a keen gardener. Her husband predeceased her in 1925. The funeral will take place in Masterton tomorrow, leaving the residence, 45 Colombo Road, following a service at 2 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery. MRS C. KEBBELL. The death occurred at 1 “Te Hoe,” Alfredton yesterday of Mrs Mary Christine Kebbell, widow of the late Mr Cecil Kebbell, of Alfredton. The late Mrs Kebbell, who was 75 years of age, was a daughter of the late Mr and. Mrs Duncan Cameron, early settlers of the district. Her husband predeceased her in 1938. She had lived all her life in the Wairarapa and is survived by one son and two daughters. Mrs Kebbell had been in indifferent health for some time, past. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the Alfredton Church, following a service at 10.30 a.m. for the Masterton Cemetery, arriving there at 12.30 p.m.
