The Berlin radio announces that General Hoffman von Waldau, of the Luftwaffe, died an airman’s death during an operational flight in the area of his command. ELECTIONS IN EIRE ALL PARTIES AGREED ON NEUTRALITY.

The Dail will adjourn tonight for the general elections in Eire, because its statutory life of five years expires in June. Candidates already ratified are: De Valera’s Fianna Fail Party, 89: Fine Gael, 87; Labour, 72. ~ Farmers Party candidates and Independents are expected to make up an additional 50. The parties are all agreed on the policy of war neutrality. Mr de Valera is emphasising throughout Eire that the only obstacle to Ireland’s complete freedom and unity is the “great wrong of partition.” Labour is not supporting the Coalition scheme of the Opposition Leader (Mr Cosgrave).

The strength of parties after the last elections was: —Fianna Fail, 77; Fine Gael, 45; Labour, 9; .Independents, 7; making a total of 138.
