AWARDED TO CAPTAIN P= W. LINTON OUTSTANDING SUBMARINE COMMANDER. RECORD OF GREAT ACHIEVEMENT IN MEDITERRANEAN. LONDON, May 25. The Victoria Cross has been awarded to Captain John Wallace Linton, one of the outstanding submarine aces of the war. He played a big part in the Mediterranean war and sank an enemy cruiser, a destroyer, a U-boat, and 28 supply ships, representing 100,000 tons of shipping. Captain Linton’s latest command was the submarine Turbulent, which was recently reported missing and presumed lost in the final phase of the North African campaign.
