MASTERTON COUNTY
REPORT FOR PAST YEAR. REVENUE & EXPENDITURE. At the annual meeting of the Masterton County Council held at noon today a comprehensive report covering the year ending March 31. was submitted by the County Clerk, Mr J. C. D. Mackley. The report stated that the total revenue from all sources amounted to £73,407 as against £64,130 last year, while the total expenditure for the same period totalled £79,567, as against £69,250 last year, making a total turnover for the twelve months of £152,974 . The total expenditure on the maintenance and construction of roads, including main highways, under the council’s control during the past year totalled £35,025 as against £36,674 for the corresponding period last year, representing a decrease of £1,649. Of the total reading expenditure, £16,474 was expended on maintenance and £18,551 on construction. The figures for the year immediately preceding were £18,607 and £18,067 respectively. The total hospital levy paid to the Wairarapa Hospital Board for the year 1942-43 was £6,735 as against £4,885 in the previous year, an increase of £1,850. The levy for the current year, 1943-44, has been fixed at £6,202, a decrease of £533 over last financial year. The damage occasioned to roads and bridges throughout the county by the two serious earthquakes of June 24 and August 2, 1942, and the floods which followed was considerable, the estimated cost of earthquake repairs alone being put down at between £9,000 and £lO,OOO. The amount expended in the Dr M. Trimble Afforestation Bequest Trust Account in the purchase of land and incidental expenses was £491.
