ATHEISTIC COMMUNISM

ATTACKED BY ROMAN CATHOLIC BISHOPS (Bv Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY. May 24. “International atheistic Communism" has been attacked in a letter signed by all the Roman Catholic bishops of New South Wales. The letter, in pointing out that Communism claimed a four-fold increase in its Australian, membership in the past two years, declared that the Australian Communists were exploiting the heroic resistance of the Russian people. “We commend and admire the Russian people for so splendidly doing their duty, but wo demand that these enemies of Christendom, the Communsts, should not exploit our goodwill,' the letter stated. •’Because Communists, should not exploit our goodwill," lasting loyalty to Australia: because it is Communism it denies man his fundamental rights; because it is atheistic it denies God."

The letter pointed out that the Australian Communist Party affiliated in 1922 with the Communist International, and said that therefore its programme and decisions must correspond with those of the Comintern.
