FEATHERSTON

LEAGUE OF MOTHERS BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the League of Mothers was held on Thursday in the Parish Hall, Mrs A. Clark presiding. The speaker, Lieutenant Robertson, who was a missionary in Japan for three years, gave an interesting talk on Japanese marriage customs and family life. The hostesses were Mesdames E. Fellingham, R. Hardy and T. Hardie.

GOLF

Weekend games played on the Featherston Golf Club's links resulted: Mrs L. G. Benton, net 65; H. R. Bloxam, net 71; Mrs R. Donald, net 74. In a Stableford handicap Mrs L. G. Benton and H. R. Bloxam were equal first, and L. G. Benton and Miss O. Nix equal second. The Bidwill Memorial contest, which was played at the opening of the Wairarapa Golf Club's season on Saturday, resulted (all net scores): M. J. Hood 56. Miss J. C. Collins 70, Mrs Elbe 73, D. E. Collins 75, W. J. Pope 75, Mrs Pope 77. The cup was presented to the winner by the president, Mr J. W. Card. The first round for the Victoria Cup is to be played next Saturday. Dance. There was a good attendance at the soldiers’ dance in the Town Hall on Saturday night. The music was supplied by Mrs Ashton’s orchestra and extras were played by Misses G. Fraser, N. Tocker and C. Saba. Mr Ashton was M.C. A Monte Carlo competition was won by Miss A. Lowell and partner. A competition for a

box of chocolates was won by Mrs Day. Personal. The preacher at St John’s evening service yesterday was the vicar of Martinborough, the Rev J. R. Nield. Miss J. Dawson and Miss Molly Clapshaw, Wellington, were weekend visitors to Featherston. COSY THEATRE “REMEMBER THE DAY.” A story with a wide appeal, “Remember the Day,” with Claudette Colbert and John Payne in the principal roles, is the attraction at the Cosy Theatre on Wednesday night. There is a good supporting programme.
