BIBLE SOCIETY

VISIT OF ORGANISER. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Eketahuna branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society was held in the Methodist Sunday School room on Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. H. Utting presided over a fair attendance of members. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Rev. G. C. Williams, whose death occurred during the year. Mrs S. Rowe, of Auckland, sang a solo, which was much enjoyed. The election of officers resulted:— President, the Rev. C. J. W. Mutter; vice-presidents, Mr and Mrs J. F. Baillie, Mesdames Gallagher, H. P. Hansen, Jones, the Rev. Utting and Misses M. Anderson and Hooper. It was decided that all officers should act as the committee. The secretary and treasurer would be appointed later. A hearty vote of thanks, carried by acclamation, was accorded Miss M. Hooper, the retiring secretary and treasurer. Mrs N. Wakelin, district organiser, spoke of the work the society was doing in distributing the Bible in all parts of the world. The society had published the Bible in 751 different languages. There were 290 different languages in More than 60,000 Bibles had be’en given to service men leaving for overseas. Mrs Wakelin spoke of the urgent need for collectors in this district, as each year of war made the work more difficult. Afternoon tea was served by the committee. Personal, Mrs R.
