NEW SHIPS

PRODUCTION IN UNITED STATES. SPEEDED UP REMARKABLY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 22. “Last month our American shipyards turned out 157 merchant vessels, and this month that record is being beaten,” said the chairman of the United States Maritime Commission, Admiral Land. “By the end of May we will have delivered 700 new ships since January 1. That closely approaches our production for the entire 12 months of last year.” Admiral Land also disclosed that the emergency vessels "were scheduled originally to be built in 210 days, and later this was modified to 105 days. They are now being delivered into service on an average of about 50 days.”
