CLEARING-UP WORK SHOWGROUNDS & RACECOURSE. (“Times-Age” Special.) Good progress is being made by the Public Works Department employees with the cleaning-up of the Carterton showgrounds and Carterton racecourse. Both grounds are being placed rapidly in good order by the gangs employed. Football. At the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Union, which is to be held in Carterton tonight, it is expected that there will be a good response in the way of teams to compete in the season’s competitions. Personal. Among decorations conferred at Government House, Wellington, yesterday, by his Excellency the GovernorGeneral was the Colonial Auxiliary Forces’ Officers’ Decoration to Major A. T. White, M.C., retired list, of Paraparaumu Beach. Major White at one time was headmaster of the .Carterton District High School. Parcel Evening. On Friday evening next members of the Hinemoa Hockey Club will tender a parcel evening and social to a member of the club. Miss Mona Parker, at the Masonic Hall, Carterton. Good music and supper will be provided. • State Schools. The State schools will reopen on Monday after the term vacation. Personal. A pleasant function took place yesterday when the Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, made a presentation of a fountain pen and hold-all to Driver F. A. Nightingale. The Mayor referred to the guest’s good citizenship and wished him good luck and God speed. Driver Nightingale suitably replied. A parcel was also forwarded to Sergeant j. Harding, son of Mr and Mrs L. J. Harding. of Rexwood Street. REGENT THEATRE “SUSPICION.” One of the most revealing mystery romances of the year. “Suspicion,’ will be shown at the Regent Theatre tonight. Cary Grant and Sir Cedric Hardwicke are starred in ..this production, which was Joan Fontaine’s academy award.
