The President added that final decisions on -these ' recommendations would be .niade next .week, after the ■kinks had ibeen ironed out. Mentioning that American ship construction far .exceeded sinkings, Mr Roosevelt said the total output was well ahead of what anyone expected a year ago. He added that the total effectiveness of the shipping programme was being materially increased by switching from Liberty ships to faster and better “Victory” ships, which would ■be useful after the war. Tjhe President said the principal point of his recent series of conferences with Dr T. V. Soong Avas that of getting war materials of all kinds, 6 including medicines, into China.
