« RED CROSS SOCIETY EXAMINATION RESULTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The results of the hygiene and sanitation examination conducted by the Red Cross Society are:— Elementary: Passes, Miss B. Currie, Miss A. Johnson and Edna Wilkinson. Advanced: Pass, Mrs Halpin. Soldiers Entertained. A party of convalescent American servicemen were entertained recently at Waiorongomai, the home of Mr and Mrs R. W. Matthews. The weather was ideal and the country looked beautiful. The visitors were entertained at luncheon and spent the afternoon playing tennis and various games. All thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Euchre Tourney. Mrs Lowell and Mrs McGarvie were the winners of the Service Club’s euchre tourney held on Tuesday night. Mr M. B. Tait was the competition winner. There was a good attendance of players. Concert & Dance. A successful social, concert and dance to celebrate the victory in North Africa, organised by Mr and Mrs R. W. Matthews and the Rev J. R. Higgs, was held in the old school at Western Lake on Tuesday evening. Mrs Raper’s singing class rendered several popular item's. Two (Maori ladies from the Chatham Island (Miss Keepa and Miss Hough) also contributed ’items and the Rev J. R. Higgs sang comic songs. Mrs Houghton and Mr Parker played the music for. the dancing. Excellent refreshments were served, and the hall was full to overflowing. Mr Matthews was thanked for the gift of a piano he made to the hall.
