PROGRESS ON ATTU

TWO AMERICAN FORCES IN CONTACT PASS FROM HOLTZ BAY, CLEARED OF ENEMY TROOPS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) RUGBY, May 19. Further American advances in Attu Island are announced by the United States Navy Department. A communique stated that forces, working inland, were in possession of a high ridge south-east of Holtz Bay and that United Stales troops from the Massacre Bay area were advancing northwards. During the day the Massacre Bay force advanced up a pass towards Holtz Bay and advanced patrols from the two topees joined during the afternoon. The pass was cleared of enemy troops.
