ELECTRIC POWER LINE REPAIRS ON SUNDAY, (!‘Times-Age” Special.) Consumers in the Tararua Power Board’s district are reminded that electric power will be cut off in the whole of the board’s area on Sunday, May 16, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to allow the Public Works Department to carry out line repairs.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT RONGOKOKAKO. At the monthly meeting of the Rongokokako Women’s Institute held in the local hall, Mrs W. J. O’Neil (president) presided over a good attendance of members. Miss McPhee (Rongokokako) gave an interesting talk on the Great Barrier Island. A beautiful display of felt work was on'show, kindly lent by Mrs Mann ell, of Masterton. Mrs J. P. Sigvertsen was presented with a shoulder spray in honour of Mother’s Day, and Baby Mac Kay was presented with 5s for the National Savings Account. A report on the annual council meeting held at Mangamutu on April 27, was read by Mrs Winter. A collection of biscuits was handed in for soldiers’ parcels. The competitions for the month re-sulted:--Autumn leaves and berries: Mrs Baucke, 1; Mrs S. Smith, 2; Mrs Morriss Senr., 3. Apple pie made on a saucer: Mrs F. Goggin, 1; Mrs R. McAnulty, 2; Mrs Baucke, 3. White flower for Mother’s Day: Miss Ursula Payne, 1; Mrs K. Falkner, 2; Mrs F. Goggin, 3. Best flower: Mrs Baucke, 1; Mrs Morriss Senr., 2; Mrs F. Goggin. 3. Three flowers: Mrs H. Winter, 1; Mrs Baucke, 2; Mrs R. McAnulty, 3. The hostesses, Mrs J. Payne and Miss Ursula Payne, served afternoon tea. Mesdames J. Drysdale and Snell were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for judging the competitions.
