WOMEN’S DIVISION MEETING OF BRANCH. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs Maitland presided over a meeting of the Carterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers Union. There was a large attendance. A vote of sympathy was passed to members who had suffered bereavements during the past month. _ . Voting on the question of a Dominion Conference resulted in favour of a conference being held. Sister Una Goodin, serving with the forces overseas, wrote thanking tne division for a parcel received. Final arrangements were made for a birthday party to be held on June 4. The winners of the monthly flower and shrub competitions were:—Best blooms, Mrs W. E. Knowles 1, Mrs H. Abbott 2, Mrs J. Standen 3. Bestshrub: Mrs E. W. Allen 1 and 2, Mrs Standen 3. Personal. Mr and Mrs S. Green, of Levin, are visiting Carterton. and are the guests of Mrs Barrett, Belvedere Street. During the progress of the Scout card evening on Wednesday night, the chairman of the Scout Committee made a presentation to Miss F. I. Eagle of an electric reading lamp, in honour of her marriage on Saturday evening at St. Marks Church. Mr Morris referred to the active interest Miss Eagle had taken for 3| years aS cub mistress, and her 11 years as secretary to the Scout Citizens’ Committee. Earthquake. An earthquake of a jolting nature was felt in Carterton at about 6.6 o’clock last evening. Church Service. A Church of England service will be held at Longbush at 2.30 p.m. on Sun- j day. Personal. On Friday, May 21, Clareville and district residents will tender a social evening and presentation to Flight Sergeant Hall in the Clareville Hall. REGENT THEATRE TWO MYSTERY THRILLERS. Two mystery thrillers are included in the current programme at the Regent Theatre. “No Hands on the Clock,” with Chester Morris and Jean Parker in the leading roles and “Hot Spot,” starring Betty Grable and Victor Mature, are classed as two of the year’s most exciting productions.
