ST. ANDREW SOCIETY

SCOTS AND OLD TIME DANCING. GATHERING ON SATURDAY NIGHT. A large attendance of members of the Saint Andrew Society and their guests, including many service men, thoroughly enjoyed the Scots and old time dances held at the society’s gathering in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, on Saturday night. During the evening, to assist those dancers who were uncertain of the figures in an eightsome reel, a team gave a demonstration. The various movements were first explained and the team then went through them. This proved most helpful and instructive to those taking part in the reel which followed.

Two interludes in the dancing were provided by Miss Ella Edwards and Mr John Cunningham. Miss Edwards danced a Sean Triubhais and showed that she has lost none of her ability and skill. Mr Cunningham also entertained the gathering with a pianoforte solo, playing one of Edgar Barratt’s Scottish tone poems. It was announced by the Chief, that if it could be arranged, the first portion of the gathering on June 5 would take the form of a programme of concert items, with the second half of the evening devoted to dancing.
