FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE

TRIBUTE TO NURSING PROFESSION. SERVICE AT LANSDOWNE. A tribute to the great work of Florence Nightingale and the nursing profession was paid by the Rev David McNeur at a special service held at the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church last night. Members of the nursing staff of the Masterton Hospital and Voluntary Aids were among the large and representative congregation. “Speculation or Service - ’ was the subject of an address given by Mr McNeur. “The scene of the Cross is the type of suffering humanity today,” said Mr McNeur. “Some standing around said ‘Let be. Let us wait and see.’ One ran. We speculate, gossip and wait and see while others are suffering and dying. The Nursing service is the type of those that run to give service to all the sick, maimed and diseased without question of who or what they are. More of that unquestioning, prompt service is required. There are two things to be satisfied. One spiritual and the other physical. We have souls as well as bodies and all effective service rendered must bear that in mind.” Mrs Moss sang a solo and Mrs H. M. Morton was at the organ. A social hour followed the service. The Matron of the Masterton Hospital, Miss H. D. Grant, thanked the Church for receiving the nurses and the Ladies’ Guild for its hospitality.
