APPEAL BOARDS
POSITION CONSIDERED UNFAIR. FARMERS URGE UNIFORMITY. The position of armed forces appeal boards was discussed by the Tinui branch of the Farmers’ Union at the annual meeting of the branch, held last ■night. It was stated that when the Wairarapa Board was first formed it consisted of a local body representative (Mr T. Jordan), a farmers’ representative (Mr L. T. Daniell), and a labour representative, Mr F. Cole. The chairman was paid 30s a day, less taxes, and the other members 25s a day, less taxes, that is, on days on which the board sat. Some members of other armed forces appeal boards were paid a salary, the chairman receiving £9OO and the other members £450 a year. It was explained that the late chairman of the Wairarapa board, Mr T. Jordan, had refused to continue to sit under these circumstances.
Members agreed that the position was unfair, and a motion was passed asking that all members of armed forces appeal boards, especially the chairmen, should be brought into line as regards remuneration.
