POWER SHORTAGE
DEFINITE NEED FOR ECONOMY. CO-OPERATION OF CONSUMERS SOUGHT. “The power position in the North Island is serious, and there is a very definite necessity for consumers to economise,” said Mr George Brown, Secre-tary-Manager of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board this morning.
“We look to consumers to be careful, as if they are not we will have to take more drastic action. We hope, however, to get through the winter with the restrictions already in force. These have been in operation for the last 18 months.”
Mr Brown added that everything depended on the co-operation of consumers. The supply of power made available by the Public Works Department was strictly limited. The restriction on the use of radiators was imposed by the Electricity Controller and operated throughout New Zealand.
