CENTRAL SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE HEADMASTER’S REPORT. CARE OF RECREATION GROUND. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Central School Committee was held in the school last evening. There were present: Messrs W. R. Nicol (chairman), P. H. Shaw, G. Masters, G. Bilderbeck, A. Dixon, T. A. Russell and A. E. Nelson.
The financial statement showed a very satisfactory state of affairs, and accounts amounting to £ll 10s 6d were passed. The headmaster’s report showed the roll number to be 600, there being 538 at the main school and 62 at the side school. The percentage of attendance was 94. The activities of the Junior’ Red Cross Circles showed that funds were being raised in various ways for this work. The carrot crop of 3 to 4 cwt. had been given to a local institution Difficulty had arisen in connection with the use of the flag-pole. Certain improvements in the staff room were suggested. The report was adopted and it was decided to write to the Wellington Education Board regarding the flagpole and to leave the matter of improvements in the hands of the headmaster.
Mr Bilderbeck reported the laying down of a new lawn at the East School. It was decided to ask the Parents Association to take over the care of the recreation ground for another year. The committee passed a vote of sympathy with Mr A. Dixon on the death of his mother. Mr Nicol spoke in eulogistic terms of the life and work of the late Mrs Dixon.
The visiting committee for the ensuing month will be Messrs Masters, Russell and Shaw.
