FEATHERSTON

WEDDING HODDER—SAVAGE ("Times-Age” Special.) A pretty wedding took place recently at St Matthew’s Church, Masterton, when Phillis Dora Ismay, only daughter of Mr and the late Mrs H. E. Savage, Featherston, was married to Stanley William Joseph, elder son of the late Mr and Mrs N. S. Hodder, Featherston. The Ven Archdeacon Rich officiated.

The bride, who entered the church escorted by her brother, S/Sgt. H. O. Savage, wore a beautiful gown of ivory bridal dream satin, featuring a heart-shaped neck line and long fitting sleeves pointed over' the hands. Her tulle veil, lent by a friend, formed a second train and was held in place by a halo of pleated tulle and orange blossom. A sheaf of gladioli, belladonna lilies and maiden hair fern completed her ensemble. The bride was attended by Mrs Peggy McMullen, of Featherston, as matron of honour, and she wore a charming gown of white lace over lilac shot taffeta with a shoulder length white tulle veil to match. She carried a sheaf of gladioli, asters and maiden hair fern in lilac tonings.

The duties of best man were carried out by Mr Clive Sunkel of Featherston.

On leaving the church the bride was presented with a lucky horseshoe by Miss Betty Murphy. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the bride. A reception was afterwards held at the Savage Club rooms where the guests were received by Miss M. Harper and Mrs G. Gain, the former wearing a black ensemble with accessories and shoulder spray to tone and the latter being attired in a blue tailored costume with navy accessories and shoulder spray i to tone. Later Mr and Mrs S. W. Hodder left on a tour of the South Island, the bride wearing a black pin stripe tailored costume and matching accessories.

Flood Control Scheme.

A meeting of the ratepayers of the South Wairarapa River Board was held in the Kahutara Hall when there was a fair attendance.

The meeting was called to discuss the flood control of the Lake Wairarapa area.

The engineer (Mr H. F. Toogood) was present and explained the proposed scheme. After nearly three hours discussion it was decided on the motion of Mr A. Linton, seconded by Mr Campbell Smith, “that this meeting agrees that the scheme is beyond the capacity of the board, and that it be- referred to the Government as a national undertaking for further consideration.”

COSY THEATRE TWO BIG FEATURES.

Ralph Bellamy and Margaret Lindsay have the leading roles in the sensational drama, “Ellery Queen and the Murder Ring,” which will be shown tonight. The other feature “The Blonde From Singapore,” is a drama full of adventure and starring Florence Rice and Leif Erikson.

The Vatican radio on Monday night inaugurated regular broadcasts in Russian. An Apostolic letter was read, urging Christians to continue to pray. It went on: “This is punishment for the world. Entire peoples have become overproud. When the people abandon religion and honesty, disorder begins.” It was then announced that regular broadcasts in Russian would take place from the Vatican, devoted to news, general religious talks, and religious items connected with Russia.
