MRS A. N. GRIGG, M.P.
WILL NOT CONTEST ELECTION. ON ACCOUNT OF HEALTH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) KAITAIA, April 19. Because of the state of her health and acting on medical advice, Mrs A. N. Grigg, M.P., had announced that she would not contest the forthcoming election,” said the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland. Mr Holland added that he felt the people of the Dominion, regardless of political affiliation, would receive this intimation with regret because of the high esteem in which she was held. Mrs Grigg’s health had been impaired because of her public service and her present indisposition was largely the result of her strenuous Dominionwide speaking campaign to assist the Government in launching the Land Army service. He hoped that after a short spell from Parliamentary life she would be fully restored to health and that her services would again be available to the people of New Zealand.
The Mid-Canterbury National committee would now proceed with the selection of Mrs Grigg’s successor.
A Press Association telegram from Christchurch reports that Mrs Grigg entered hospital yesterday for an operation on her throat.
