GARDEN PARTY
KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION GATHERING COMPETITION WINNERS. ADDRESS BY MR ROBERTSON. The. Masterton Free Kindergarten Association held a most successful garden party in fine weather on Saturday afternoon. Mr and Mrs J. Wingate lent their garden, “Kingswell,” Renall Street, for the occasion. The grounds were in splendid order. Sideshows and various stalls were set out among the trees and stallholders conducted brisk business. Donkey and pony rides were provided for the children. The Masterton Municipal Band rendered a programme and a party of Maori girls gave a display of poi dances and games. A splendid display was given by children from Whatman School. Approximately £3O was cleared in aid of the association’s funds. Mr J. Robertson, M.P., who officially opened the gathering, stressed the progress which had been made by the association during the short time it had operated. He said that for a town of its size Masterton was well off for educational facilities . Although a Free Kindergarten was lacking it was hoped to have one soon. Mr M. G. Mackay, speaking for the committee, thanked Mr and Mrs J. G. Wingate for the use of their beautiful garden, and all who had assisted by way of donations or service. Competitions were won as follow: — Croquet, lan Clements, Cambridge Terrace; cake, Mrs Pearson, Short Street; theatre tickets, Miss McLennan; dinner, Mrs Bunny, Renall Street; cake ready for dispatch overseas, Mrs D. Holdsworth, McGregor Crescent The committee wishes to thank all for their assistance and the Wairarapa Transport Company for providing free cartage.
