FOOD RATIONING
HARDSHIPS IN UNITED STATES, —. * I (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) NEW YORK, March 25. About half the housewives of the United States will have to budget under rationing when meat rationing begins on March 29. On a points basis, Americans will get about two pounds of meat weekly, a quarter of a pound of cheese, and a quarter of a pound of butter or margarine. Sugar, tinned fish, and other canned foods are also rationed.
After Monday the only important foods unrationed will be milk, cereals, vegetables and poultry. Everything points to the American people suffering food hardships exceeding those of the worst periods in the last war. Angry scenes have occurred in stores in West Coast cities where meat supplies were exhausted.
