SPECIALISED UNITS

NEW ZEALANDERS IN EGYPT. INSPECTED BY SIR H. M. WILSON. (Official War Correspondent, N.Z.E.F.) CAIRO, March '24. An informal visit to New Zealand specialised troops training at a base camp was paid by General Sir H. Maitland Wilson, the commander of the Near East forces. After the inspection of the guard, the general saw the men at work, pausing to listen to a wireless unit. The morning’s syllabus included a demonstration in the laying and lifting of a minefield and mine detection. Gunners on the anti-tank practice range rose to the occasion and straightway sent a moving miniature target skittling. After lunch with the units officer, the general drove to a desert range for a brief anti-tank demonstration.
