BEQUESTS TO CHARITIES
LARGE PORTION OF ESTATES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Under the wills of the late Major C. T. Tatum, of Manakau, and his widow, Mrs A. E. Tatum, who died recently a large portion of their estates passes to various charitable and other institutions. The late Major Tatum was for many years well known in Wellington and at one time was a member of the City Council. He was also prominent in Masonic circles. The former homestead of the late Major and Mrs Tatum at Manakau with over 30 acres of farm property passes to the Boy Scouts’ Association and a training centre for the scout movement is to be established there. After providing benefits for certain close friends the following bequests are made under Major Tatum’s will:— £lOOO to Lodge Wellington for Masonic benevolent or educational purposes. £lOO to the Masonic Grand Lodge for the widows and orphans fund or the Kirkpatrick Masonic Orphanage. £lOO to the Wellington Commercial Travellers’ Club Blind Soldiers and Sailors Fund. . -X U £lOO to the Salvation Army for its orphanage fund. £lOO to the Wellington Boys’ Institute. £250 to the British and Foreign Bible Society, New Zealand. £lOO to the British-Israel Federation of New Zealand. . , , . £lOO to Lodge Russell (Masonic) for benevolent purposes with a similar bequest to the Horowhenua Lodge for the same pur£lOO to the Boys Scbuts’ Association (New Zealand branch) to further the Sea Scout movement. , £lOO to the Samuel Marsden Collegiate Fund. ... £lOO to the Boy Scouts’. Association. £5OO to the Wellington Cathedral authorities for installation of a memorial window in the new cathedral. The residue of the estate passes to tne controlling authority of the proposed Anglican Cathedral for Wellington. Under Mrs Tatum’s will, after provision is made for certain personal friends, a sub- ( stantial portion of her estate passes to tne Boy Scouts’ Association and the residue is , to pass to the proposed Anglican Cathedral | F l? < is expected that the residue of the estates available for the new Anglican Cathedral will be approximately £20,000.
