JOHN BULL CALLING
DISTRICT PATRIOTIC APPEAL. According to a report from the Patriotic Committee, John Bull wishes. to congratulate the Navy League (Ladies’ branch) for their magnificent effort on Wednesday, the returns for which have now reached £2OO. The Women’s Patriotic Committee have their white elephant day well in hand for next Wednesday. Among the articles offered them for sale were three draught horses, which may be purchased without coupons. The girls at the * Bag Wash and the girls have always helped John Bull and there is a rumour that the nurses at the Hospital are also moving.
A Masterton nurse doing war work in Uganda wrote to her Masterton solicitor asking that the sum of £25 be given to the Patriotic Association. In her letter she stated that she was so far away from New Zealand that the only way she could help our boys was by giving. These ladies have set us an example we can all follow.
