RETURNED MEN
PREFERENCE OF EMPLOYMENT IN AUSTRALIA MR CURTIN TO INTRODUCE BILL. SENATE ALSO TAKING ACTION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The Soldiers’ Preference Bill, amending the present Public Service Act, will be introduced by the Prime Minister (Mr Curtin) in the House of Representatives this week. The issue of preference for returned men has also been raised by the Commonwealth Senate, which has carried'an amendment to the Repatriation Bill giving preference to ex-Service men in all public service appointments, and stipulating that a contractor to the Government must bind himself in a sum of £5O to give similar preference. Mr Curtin is expected to indicate that the Government considers that mcrchanj; seamen, Allied IVbrks Council employees, and other protected industry ' workers should receive the same benefits as returned soldiers.
