PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES PROPOSED CLOTHES DRIVE. ("Times-Age” Special.) Mr J. A. Betts and Mrs O’Hara Smith, representatives from Masterton, visited Grey town yesterday afternoon and conferred with the local ladies’ committee in connection with the Patiotic clothes drive which is to be held in Masterton at the end of the month. Mr Betts outlined the basis on which each district would co-operate in the scheme. He expressed pleasure at the interest already taken in the drive, and the fact that fifteen persons were present at the meeting was most gratifying. All gifts, which could include clothes, vegetables, cakes, antiques in fact anything would be accepted—are to be sent to the Red Cross Society’s depot by March 30. The Citizens’ Committee will meet on Wednesday to further the effort. Women’s Division. The Grey town branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union will hold its monthly meeting in the Parish Hall on Wednesday. The competitions this month will be for pikelets and scones. Bowling. Carter (1 life each) in the competition. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Vartha, of Lower Hutt, were the guests of Mr and Mrs R. Beu, of Morison’s Bush, at the weekend. Miss Shedden was a weekend visitor to Wellington. Mrs Wise, of Wellington, has returned home after having spent a few days with her daughter, Mrs J. Robb, East Street. Mrs Balfour Senr., has returned home after a holiday spent in Wanganui. Miss M. Duff is visiting Napier. Mrs W. Carwell-Cooke, of Palmerston North, is spending a holiday with her mother. Mrs Duff, of Main Street. Mrs Cundy, of Dannevirke, was the guest of Mrs W. J. Knell at the weekend. TOWN HALL “BALL OF FIRE.” Tonight’s programme will be headed by “Ball of Fire.” The hilarious romance of a college professor and a night club queen is the theme of “Ball of Fire,” co-starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. Hailed as one of the funniest offerings in many years, the picture deals with the strange happenings that occur when the professor, one of a group writing a new encyclopaedia, invites the singer to visit them so he can get some first-hand information on slang for an article in the forthcoming work.
