THEFT OF WATCH
ACCUSED FINED £l. A charge of theft of a watch, valued at £5 ss, the property of Henry Gordon Dagg, was preferred against Abraham Thomas Oliver, 26, a driver, when he appeared before Messrs L. J. Taylor and A. D. Low, J’s.P., in the Masterton Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon. Accused, who elected to be dealt with summarily and pleaded guilty, was convicted and fined £1 and ordered to make good certain damage to the watch. Detective-Sergeant W. Kane, who prosecuted fox’ the police said the watch was reported missing about two years ago during harvesting operations on Mr Dagg’s property at Manaia, where the accused was working at the time. Nothing was seen of the watch until yesterday, when Olivei' was found with it in his possession . Detective Sergeant Kane said that the accused had told him that he had found j the watch but had made no effort to return it.
