A WEAKENED MARKET

MET AT MASTERTON YESTERDAY. LOWER PRICES FOR LIVE STOCK. The Masterton Associated Auctioneers report as follows on their weekly sale, held at Masterton yesterday:—To an average yarding of equal entries of store lambs and breeding ewes, a weakened market was met, continued dry weather undoubtedly accounting for the main result of lower and steadier values at auction. Breeding ewes in all sections met a neglected market, and taking into account condition and quality yarded, a drop of 3s per head was recorded for ewes on previous sales held. The 2tooth ewes particularly appeared to be good buying in comparison with the 2-tooth wether market. Very few lines of good quality shorn wether lambs were offered, and for these local buyers, as usual, with lack of outside competition operating, bid conservatively. The yarding in the store blackface section, though small, maintained par values on recent sales for like condition and Quality. The following will indicate values:—Fat sheep: Wethers, 245. 23s Bd, 23s Gd, 225; lambs, 245, 20s, 18s Gd; b.f. ewes. 14s Id, 14s.
