WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. . > (“Times-Age” Special.) • The annual meeting of the Eketa- ' huna Women’s Institute was held re- , cently when Mrs Albretchsen presid- ; ed over a small attendance of members. An apology for absence was received from Mrs Spurdie. It was decided that if a conference were held this year a delegate would be sent. The president thanked the retiring officers for their, work during the year. The secretary presented the annual report and balance sheet which were adopted. A vote of thanks was passed to the secretary. Mrs C. Farrow read the annual report and financial statement of the Drama Circle and Glee Club. The following officers were elected: —President, Mrs E. Albretchsen; vicepresidents, Mesdames P. Fauvel and W. Ure; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs W. Sturgeon; press reporter, Miss M. Hooper; committee, Mesdames R. Farrow, R. Duncan, Oliver, T. D. Oliver and Schultz. Two new members were elected. A bring and buy stall did good business. Competitions were won as follows: — Premier bloom: Mrs Bauche 1, Mrs H. Higginson 2, Mrs T. Oliver 3. Three flowers: Mrs Bauche 1, Mrs T. Oliver 2, Mrs Baucke and Mrs T. Oliver (equal) 3. Lady’s apron: Mrs C. Farrow 1, Mrs T. Oliver 2, Mrs B. Morriss 3. Three carrots: Mrs C. Farrow 1, Mrs P. Fauvel 2. The hostesses were Mesdames P. Fauvel and C. Farrow. The annual report of the Drama Circle stated inter alia:—We wish to thank Mrs Hart and Miss M. Wilson for assistance given to the Glee Circle and all other helpers, and Mrs C. Cross the producer. Six members of the Drama Circle have left since the last annual meeting and several others will be unable to take part in its activities. The balance sheet shows a credit of £1 Os lOd, less a liability of 5s 3d. Personal Items. Private Hugh Leslie is spending furlough with his parents, Mr and Mrs G. Leslie, Hastwell Street. Mr G. Leslie Senr., was a passenger in a motor car when the door opened. He fell out and was dragged along the road for some distance. He received severe injuries and is confined to bed. Mrs Jesson Senr., and Messrs A. and V. Jesson, who spent the week-end in Eketahuna, have returned to Wellington. Misses B. Curry, J. Martin and L. Southey, of the W.W.S.A., have left for Wellington to take up war work. Miss M. Tomlinson is on a visit to Auckland. Miss Windleburn is the guest of her aunt, Mrs C. Boustead, Alfredton Road.
