MISCHIEF IN PARK
DOG DESTROYED & OWNER TO BE PROSECUTED. WARNING TO THE PUBLIC. The fact that a dog had been caught causing mischief in the Park, and had been destroyed, was reported at last night’s meeting of the Masterton Borough Council. It was decided that the owner should be prosecuted. Councillor C. E. Grey asked as to what damage had been done by the dog. The Town Clerk, Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith, said it had chased the ducks over to the island in Vie park lake. Councillor Grey said that the council had been drastic in having the dog destroyed. He said that it should not have been done. If it had been his dog that had been destroyed it would have cost the council a lot of money in damages. As an owner and having a high regard for dogs he would sooner pay the cost of damage rather than that the dog should be destroyed. Councillor G. D. Wilson said that the dog had been destroyed with the consent of the owner. A warning had been already given to the owner. The case would serve as a warning to the public generally.
