EDUCATION INSTITUTE

MASTERTON BRANCH. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. There was a good attendance members at the annual general ing of the Masterton Branch of the New Zealand Education Institute held in Masterton. A pleasing feature of the gathering was the presence of teachers from country schools and the southern part of the district. Mr J. P. Farrell (president) made special reference to these when extending "a welcome. The report showed that the affairs of the branch were in a very satisfactory state both as regards membership and finance. Members of the branch on military service overseas and in New Zealand, last year numbered 33, and part of the branch’s activities had been the dispatch of parcels to the men overseas from whom very interesting letters have been received. In spite of difficulties of transport, the branch has had successful meetings during the year, and interest in the institute ha's been maintained. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr E. G. Coddington; vice-presidents, Messrs J. P. Farrell and J. B. Johnstone; hon. secretary, Miss J. E. Sellar; committee, Mrs Mcßae, Misses Horneman, Howes, Lublow, Major and Tankersley, and Mr J. A. Kennedy. At the close of the meeting a vote of thanks to the retiring president and members of the management committee was carried by acclamation.
