AWARD OF BURSARY
TO AGRICULTURAL STUDENT MADE BY WAIRARAPA COLLEGE BOARD. FARM IN EXCELLENT STATE. The grant of a bursary, tenable at the College Hostel, to a back country student to enable him to further his agricultural studies was made at a meeting of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors last night. It was emphasised that the granting of the bursary, worth £4B, was a lead to the community as there were cases where assistance, by way of a bursary would be welcomed. On the recommendation of the Act-ing-Principal, Mr F. J. Gair it was decided to award the bursary to lan William Morrison, a fourth year agricultural student. The matter of deciding rules regarding the bursary was referred to the Agricultural Committee. The chairman of the Agricultural Committee, Mr L. T. Daniell said every credit was due to Mr Gair for his idea of a bursary. To his mind it was a very good notion. The farm account was in a splendid state of credit and would be able to furnish the amount of the bursary. Mr F. C. Daniell observed that it would be of interest to the farming community if it could be indicated where the College stock came from. The sheep were particularly good and all the board members could well sit back hnd put their chests out. Mr L. T. Daniell said that the good hearing given and response made by the farming community to anything which would help the college was really wonderful. The ewes which were at present in the College paddocks were purchased on a very satisfactory basis from Messes A. and J. Gray. They were a fine line and were ideal for experimental purposes. All the ewes had been chosen carefully and had been individually handled. They would be mated with Southdown rams donated by Sil’ William Perry and Mr John McKay. Visitors would be pleased to see such fine sheep. Mr W. R. Nicol,' chairman of the board, said that if any farmers or interested persons wished to inspect the sheep and the college farm they would be very welcome and would be shown over the grounds. Mr L. T. Daniel said the farm showed a'good margin of profit. The majority of the farm labour was supplied by the boys at the College and the balance sheet was exceedingly good.
