SOUTH FEATHERSTON

EUCHRE AND DANCE HELD BY WAR SERVICE COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the euchre party and dance held in the South Featherston Hall by the War Service Committee. Mr Wilton made a presentation to Corporal Victor Bull. The music was provided by Udy’s Orchestra. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Noreen Scott and partner. Mr H. Graham carried out the duties of M.C. The card winners were: —Ladies: Mrs Wakely 1, Mrs H. Williams 2. Men: Mr G. Hyland 1, Mrs McGarvie 2. Supper was served by a ladies’ committee. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs J. Blain have returned home after having spent a holiday at Whakanae. Mrs R. J. Yule is spending a holiday at Blenheim. Mrs Robertson is spending a few days with her parents, Mr and Mrs Ashworth, Hastwells. Mr Ashworth has returned home, after having spent a few days with relatives. E. Maddispn, H. Cate, G. Brunton, F. Dennes (s) beat J. Burden, J. Stringfellow, H. Wallace, W. Higgison (s). J. Reid, H. McPhee, S. Shedden, H. Carter (s) beat E. Skeet, H. Nightingale, G. Burns, N. McLeod (s). In the champion pairs G. Duff and S. Shedden beat J. Reid and C. Larsen on the 22nd head. Shedden and Duff were fourteen down after the first seven heads but made a remarkable recovery and in the next seven heads scored 16 points. The remainder of the game saw both sides playing excellent bowls and at the 20th end Larsen was one down on the board. He secured a single and on the 21st head the score was 19 all. Reid lay the shot with his first bowl but Duff drew a beauty just behind the jack. When the skips left' the head Shedden was one up and he drew a second shot. Larsen elected to drive and his first bowl just missed. His second bowl hit the shot bowl but locked and the final score 20/19 was in favour of Duff and Shedden.In the singles competition C. Larsen beat H. Johns and Connolly. F. Dennes beat J. Reid. R. Thompson beat H. Carter. Higgison and R. Thompson were

challenged three times for the gold bars and staved off all three games. Personal. The Mayoress, Mrs A. W. Horton, has returned to her home in East Street after having been several months in the Greytown Hospital. TOWN HALL “THE SPOILERS.” The outstanding drama, “The Spoilers,” will be shown tonight. In it John Wayne, Marlene Dietrich and Randolph Scott have the leading roles.
