PATRIOTIC APPEAL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. GALA DAY PROPOSAL DISCUSSED. At this morning’s meeting of the Patriotic Committee there were present: Mr J. A. Betts (chairman), Messrs P. F. Fagan, J. Jameson, A. D. Low, R. H. Williams and G. T. O’Hara Smith. An apology for absence was received from Mr E. M. Hodder. It was reported that the circulars had been prepared for posting, together with numbered cards for return to “John Bull.” A vote of thanks was passed to those office staffs who had assisted in the addressing and sealing of these envelopes. It was reported that difficulties were being experienced in freeing the secretary for the duration of the campaign but it was still hoped to get over them. The question of a gala day was discussed and Mr Betts reported that matters were under way but that it was too early to say what form the gala would take. One member pointed out that the ptVfiic objected to apneals which disturbed them in their homes and offices but that so far there had been practically no voluntary giving.
