Day of Prayer.
The women’s' world-wide day of prayer will be observed this year on Friday. The women of New Zealand begin the day, and the last service will be held at Gambell on St Lawrence Island, off the coast of Alaska. It is over forty years since the observance of this day became an international fixture, and it is estimated that for forty hours the women of the world will thus girdle the earth with prayer and praise. Local meetings will be in the Baptist Church. Domestic Help. An assurance that local manpower officers would arrange for necessary help to be made available in cases where sickness' or the care of children made it difficult for a mother to maintain her home was sought by Mrs Dreaver (Government, Waitemata), in a notice of question in the House of Representatives yesterday. She said that cases had arisen where wives of men who had left for overseas service had been confined without assistance being made available to care for their young families.
