DERATION OF WAR
AMERICAN ESTIMATES WANING STRENGTH OF NAZIS. POWER OF UNITED NATIONS GROWING. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) NEW YORY. February 21. “The war is likely to end in 1944-45,” said the Under-Secretary of War, Mr Robert •P. Patterson. “This estimate does not rest upon a mere guess,” he said. “The estimate is based on the best information available concerning the waning strength of the Nazis and the growing power of the United Nations. “Never again in this war will the Nazis launch an offensive against Russia on the scale of those of 1941-42, They have not the manpower. The losses of the Nazis and their satellites have been at least 4-000,000 soldiers dead, captured and permanently disabled.” Mr Patterson said that the Americans’ fighting qualities were proving superior to those of the Japanese, and the day was not far off “when Japan will feel the heavy hand of war as never before.”
