CARTERTON
BOWLING RINKS TOURNAMENT. (“Times-Age” Special.) A rinks tournament (two games of 12 heads each) was played on Saturday. The green played well and a very enjoyable time was spent. The afternoon tea arrangements were supervised by Mrs H. Simmonds and, her two daughters, who were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Among the visitors to the green were several members of the American armed forces, who were greatly interested in the club’s grounds and the games being played. The following were the results of the games. First round: W. H. Hall, E. Kilmister, C. J. De Lacey, G. Hughan (s) beat E. H. Smith, H. Colson, G. Riggs, C. H. Barber (s), 16/9; L. A. De Lacey, Edwards, J. Newbould, A. C. Tucker (s) beat A. Adams, B. Booth, W. A. Hart, G. W. Hart (s), 14/9; G. Steven,' Pankhurst, F. L. Barr (s) drew with E. J. Matson, E. Smith, W. C. M. Sorensen (s), 15/15; E. Clark, S. McCarty, W. Whyte (s) beat E. T. Beaven, P. Bain, J. C. Harp (s), 15/12; W. Spooner, Wicks, W. -F. Stent (s) beat R. Foss, E. H. Hawker, W. Martin (s), 14/7. Second round: Tucker beat Barber 20/9, Hughan beat Hart 12/7, Stentbeat Barr 11/9, Martin beat Whyte 11/10, Sorensen and Harp drew 12 each. Tucker’s rink won on points (34), Hughan being runner up with 28. Two pairs games were played by lady members of the club on Saturday, the result being as follow: Mesdames Adams and Booth (s) beat Mrs Martin and Miss Lamb (s), 23/16; Miss Armstrong and Mrs Colson (s) beat Mrs Swan and Mrs Thompson (s),j 23/13. Personal Items. Miss June Thornton, of Hamilton, is the guest of her aunt, Mrs N. Armstrong, Park Road, Carterton. Mr Colin Earl, of the staff of the Nelson “Evening Mail,” is the guest of Mr and Mrs A. G. Rabbits, Clifton Avenue, Carterton. REGENT THEATRE “THAT NIGHT IN RIO.” There will be finally shown tonight that brilliant musical comedy in technicolour, “That Night in Rio,” featuring Alice Faye, Don Amc-che and Carmen Miranda.
