ANNUAL BARRACKS

COLLEGE CADETS HIGH STANDARD OF INSTRUCTION TRAINING CARRIED OUT WITH ZEAL. The Wairarapa College Cadets yesterday concluded the most successful “barracks week” in the history of the college. The organisation was m charge of Major J. W. Bird, E.D., officer commanding, assisted by Uieut. H. N. Bibby, Flying Officer G. W. Morice (A.T.C.) and Mr J. McDonald. Through the courtesy of Wing Commander Ayling and the co-operation of Major Armstrong, M.C., five instructors from the A.D.U. were in attendance. These were Pilot Officers Porter and Andersen and Corporals Hume, Howartson and Tunnicliffe. Besides these, three instructors, Sergeant-Major Mosley, Staff Sergeant Griffin and Sgt. Campbell were present from No. 7 Area. . . , . . rThe training comprised instriiction in elementary drill, weapon training, signalling, gas, fieldcraft and physical and recreational training. The weapons and equipment necessary were obtained through the co-operation of the Masterton Sub-Area Office, the A.D.U., the sth I.M.R. and the Masterton Home Guard. The instruction given was of a very high standard and the cadets carried out their training with zeal, which resulted in a high state of efficiency being attained. • Particular attention was given to the training of the N.C.O’s. for with the present shortage of cadet officers at the college, most of the work during the year will fall on their shoulders. During the week the barracks were visited by Wing Commander Ayling, Major Caselberg from A.H.Q., Wellington, Capt. Rawley, Chief Musketry Instructor, Central Military District, Lieut. G. R. Jackson, Assistant Area Officer, and Flight Lieutenants Inglis and Warner (A.T.C.) At the conclusion of the barracks Major Bird thanked the instructors for the splendid work they had done, and the cadets, with three lusty cheers for the instructors, showed their full appreciation of the good work done for them.
