HOSPITAL NURSES
GRADUATION CEREMONY. PRESENTATION OF MEDALS. An enjoyable time was spent at the Masterton Hospital on Wednesday, the occasion being the Nurses’ Graduation Ceremony. Nurse Brisco, Houlbrooke, Rolls, Suisted and Mygind being the graduates for December, 1942, were presented with the registered nurses’ medals by Dr, Hosking who congratulated them on . becoming registered nurses. Nurse Rolls suitably replied on behalf of the graduates. Other speakers were Miss McKenny (late matron of the Wanganui Hospital), Dr. Parr (Medical Superintendent), Mr Mawley (chairman of the Wairarapa Hospital Board), and Miss Grant (matron of the Masterton Hospital). Prizes were presented as follows by Dr. Hosking for the best case study (prizes donated by Dr. Parr)ln 3rd year of training, Nurse Falloon; in 2nd year of training, Nurse Mac Lean; in Ist year of training, Nurse Cross. Best technique book (prizes donated by Miss Grant):—lni 3rd year of training, Nurse Benge; in 2nd year of training, Nurse Hewitt: in Ist year- of training, Nurse Gooder; in first 6 months of training, Nurse Bennett.' Nurse showing the most improvement in theoretical work during 1942 (prize donated by Miss Grant), Nurse Falloon. Mrs Stewart, who acted for Miss Higginson, viqe-presitient of the Wairarapa Branch of the Registered Nurses’ Association, presented prizes donated by the branch as follows:—For the best practical nurse in 3rd year of training, Nurse Benge; for the best practical nurse in 2nd year of training, Nurse McMillan; for the best practical nurse in Ist year of training, Nurse Phillips. Prizes donated by the Nursing Education Committee of the New Zealand Registered Association were awarded to Nurse Cox (for an essay “Comfort, a Nursing Essential”), and Nurse James (for a “Case Study”). Nurse Mahoney sang two songs,- accompanied by Mrs M. Purdie. The Nurses’ Choir, unaccompanied, sang two items. The proceedings concluded with supper which was served by the nursing staff. Among those present were;—Mrs Hosking, Mrs Parr, Dr. and Mrs Prior, Dr. and Mrs Forsyth, Dr. and Mrs Rich, Dr. and Mrs Purdy, Mr and Mrs N. Lee, Mr and Mrs Briscoe, Mr and Mrs Eglington, Mrs A. Beetham, Mrs Bishop, Mrs R. Burling, Mrs Gawith, Mrs Rolls, Mrs Rawlins, Mrs Gooder, Mrs McLean, Miss D. Bolton, Mrs Jaspers, Mr Bolton, Mr Richardson, Mr D. Beetham, Mr C. Harvey. Members of the Red Cross Society present were: Mrs Gawith, Miss McKenzie, Miss Palmer, Miss Ruby. Members of the St. John Ambulance Society present were: Miss Vincent, Miss J. Douglas, Miss Hamill, Miss Tregurtha and Miss H. Bell.
