HASTWELLS

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Hastwells Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday when Mrs K. Ngatuere presided over a fair attendance of members. Nominations for the new committee were received. Mrs K. Ngatuere was elected president for the ensuing year. Six letters were read from soldiers overseas thanking the Institute for parcels they had received. All the members greatly appreciated receiving the letters. It was decided to celebrate the Institute birthday with a picnic for the children on Saturday week. The competitions for the month resulted as follows: —Seniors: Plum jam: Mrs Madsen 1, Mrs C. Seymour 2, Mrs Thorbey 3. Juniors: Puff pastry: Miss E. Dick 1, Miss E. Larsen 2. Best carnation: Mrs Madsen 1, Miss E. Larsen 2, Mrs Elliott 3. The game competition which was conducted by Mrs Dick was won by Mrs K. Ngatuere. The parcel fund competition was won by Miss O. Halberg. The motto for the month was read by Miss O. Halberg. Mrs Ngatuere (jam), Mrs Seymour (puff pastry), and Mrs Thorbey (flowers) were thanked for having judged the competitions. The hostesses, Mrs C. Seymour and Mrs E. Sigvertsen, served afternoon tea.
