The desirability of establishing industries in the secondary towns of New Zealand to prevent the drift of P°P tion to the four large centres, was stressed in a circular letter received from the Timaru Borough Council at last night’s meeting of the Masterton Borough Council. Enclosed with the circular letter were articles written on the subject by the Rev. Clyde Can, M.P., and the Town Clerk of Timaru. The council unanimously decided, to support the circular letter, and to bring the matter before the member for Masterton for his attention. Councillor C. E. Grey spoke in favour of the proposals contained in the have paid too much attention to primary industry and not enough to secondary industry,” said Councillor H. E .Gardner. He said aconite or monk s hood, which was grown in America for medicinal purposes, grew to an average height of eighteen inches. In Masterton aconite grew to a height of three feet nine inches. Large quantities of lavender water were imported from abroad, continued Councillor Gardner, yet lavender grew prolifically here. Those, he said, were only some instances of what could be done. A motion supporting the letter was passed without further discussion.
