GREYTOWN

BOROUGH COUNCIL BUSINESS AT LAST NIGHT’S MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Borough Council was held last night. There were present: Councillors H. J. Farley (in the chair), I. Blissett, E.' Balfour, G. F. Eagar and F. Wood. Apologies for absence were received from the Mayor and Councillors W. A. Tate and H. McKenna. The Borough Foreman reported that during the month the concrete kerbings which were damaged by falling bricks in the earthquake had been repaired. The conveniences at the Park had also been rebuilt. Mr A. H. York’s offer of £2 for dead matai trees in the Park was accepted. The foreman was instructed to make a survey of all high pressure water supplies outside the borough. The building and sanitary inspector submitted his report for the last quarter. There had been no infectious diseases. The milk samples taken had proved satisfactory, and public buildings were found to be in good condition. The manager of the Waipawa giis works -wrote asking for particulars of the tar distilling plant from the old gas works. The town clerk was instructed to reply offering to sell the plant. The poundkeeper reported that four head of cattle had been impounded during January. The works committee was instructed to report, on the fences around the pound. Councillor Farley moved that the police be informed of the further damage done to the municipal baths. The motion was carried. • It was decided that the 10 per cent penalty on rates be imposed from March 5. Personal Items. ' Mr W. A. Tate is spending a holiday in the Lower Valley. ' Mr and Mrs H. C. Trotman are on a visit to Christchurch. Miss Grace Graham, of Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs W. G. K. Wiggins, Kuratawhiti Street. Miss Joan Skeet, of Palmerston North, is spending her annual leave with her parents at Battersea. Miss Josie Dennes, of the W.A.A.F.’s, is spending her furlough with her parents in East Street. Miss Mavis Wood, of Johnsonville, is the guest of Mrs G. L. Gee, Moroa. TOWN HALL “A YANK IN THE R.A.F.” The programme tonight is headed by the brilliant and thrilling drama, “A Yank in the R.A.F.,” in which Tyrone Power and Betty Grable have the leading roles.
