MAURICEVILLE

RED CROSS SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The garden party held under the auspices of the Mauriceville SubCentre of the Red Cross Society at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. Forsbeig on Saturday, was a decided success both financially and from a social standpoint. The garden party was declared open by Mr Lee, Wairarapa president of the Red Cross Society, who was introduced, together with Mrs Lee, Miss Elliott (secretary of the Wairarapa Centre) and the treasurer, Miss Ross. Mr Lee referred to the activities of the Red Cross Society and her remarks should certainly increase the interest locally in a worthy organisation, which has been firmly established in the district. There were numerous games and athletic events for the children and amusements for the adults. The various stalls were conducted by capable members of the committee. The winners of the competitions were: Tea set, Miss Doris Neilsen; cushion, Mrs R. Palmer; hand-worked crochet ends, Mrs E. McKeown; fruit cake, Mrs J. E. Osborne. Personal. Mr and Mrs P. Jamieson have arrived in the district. Mr Jamieson has been appointed overseer to the Mauriceville County.
