SOLDIERS’ DANCE RECORD ATTENDANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a record attendance at the soldiers’ dance in the Town Hall on Saturday night. The music was supplied by Mrs Ashton’s orchestra, and extras were played by Misses C. Saba, N. and M. Tocker. Monte Carlo dances were won by Mr Graham White and Miss fcr. Lovegrove, and Miss Tocker and partner. Mis Gwen Jensen artistically decorated the supper tables and stall. The Junior Patriotic Committee had charge of the supper. Croquet. In the A championship, Miss Nix beat Mrs Watson, 2676. 26/8; Mrs Symon beat Mrs Wakely, 26/13, 26/11. and M. Nix beat Mrs- Watson, 26/19, 26/21. Earthquake Damaged Chimneys. The Borough Council has received word from the Treasury that the Government is to make a refund to all those who have paid for the rebuilding of their chimneys through the earthquakes. The refund comprises the charges made as overtime, boarding, and a share of the fares paid of the men imported from other towns to do the work, which will in some cases amount to a fair sum. The amounts wil be paid after a statement has been made out by the clerk and sent into the Treasury. Personal Items. Miss Mary de Montalk, Lower Hutt, was the week-end guest of Mrs Ritchie. Mr and Mrs Chas. Edwards have returned from a visit to Wairoa. Miss Jean Tutbury was a week-end visitor to Wellington. COSY THEATRE “A YANK IN THE R.A.F.” On Wednesday night an excellent programme will be headed by “A Yank in the R.A.F.,” an outstanding drama featuring Tyrone Power and Betty Grable.
