HAMILTON RAM FAIR
WAIRARAPA SHEEP SELL WELL. At the Hamilton ram fair conducted by Messrs Dalgety & Co., Ltd., several consignments from Wairhrapa breeders were offered and met with keen competition. A consignment of Southdown shearlings offered on account of Mr J. L. Heckler sold up to 12 guineas, the whole consignment of 100 rams giving a very satisfactory average of 10 guineas. A consignment on account of Mr E. C. White, of Manaia, sold extremely well, competition being indeed very keen for this breeders’ rams, whcih in - pens of 4 sold up to 14gns., giving an average of 13 guineas over a consignment of 46 sheep. In the single entries a two-shear ram also on account' of this breeder realised 28 guineas. Some attractive consignments of Romneys were offered on the second day and amongst these the outstanding consignment was that on account of the well-known breeder, Mr J. E. Hewitt, Mangamaire, whose consignment of 30 rams averaged 14 guineas. A very attractive pen of strong-, woolled sheep realised 174 guineas, this being top price for the day. In the single class entries Mangamaire rams met with keen competition and made from 25gns to 57gns. A consign-I ment on account of Mr E. R. W. Bid-j will, vf Featherston, of maiden 2-tooth rams sold at the very satisfactory average of 7gns and a similar line on account of Bidwill Bros at 6gns. On account of Mr A. Southey, Eketahuna, a consignment of 30 rams sold under keen competition, bringing up to 124 gns, the whole line averaging lOgns.
