WOMEN’S WARD

STRENGTHENING NOW UNDER WAY. EARTHQUAKE repair JOB. The strengthening of the women’s ward at the Masterton Hospital is now in progress, men and material having been allocated for the purpose. This work is necessitated owing to earthquake damage last year. The patients in the ward, totalling 35, are accommodated meantime in the new emergency ward recently completed. The strengthening work involves the shoving up of the walls with wooden supports ,in such a manner as to take the weight of the roof from the walls.

This is the first time the new emergency ward has been used since its completion.
