SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS (“Times-Age” Special.) The local school committee met on Tuesday evening, there being present Messrs Mclntosh (chairman), Sutton, Duggan, Riwai and Carter. The secretary submitted a statement in connection with tfte concert and dance held prior to the holidays, which revealed a profit of £25 16s 6d. The secretary reported that Miss Harvey’s leave of absence owing to illness had been extended. It was decided to hold the annual school picnic on Friday, February 26. The chairman brought up the subject of the formation of a calf and lamb club among the children. It was unanimously resolved to adopt the proposal, and the chairman and secretary were authorised to procure two cups and miniatures for competition. Mr Riwai introduced the subject of the carriage of children to school, over the age of 10, within the stipulated distance. The matter was discussed at length, members being of the opinion that some arrangement should be made to obviate the difficulty. It was decided to refer the matter to the representative of this area on the Education Board. Personal Items. Mr Chaytor, Taumarunui, is the guest of Mr and Mrs S. Thomas. The many friends of Mr J. O’Brien will regret to hear that he has been confined to his bed for the past week. .It is the intention of the residents of the district’ to make a presentation to Mr Stan Thomas prior to his leaving the district for an Air Force camp. Mr Dugald McLeay, Wellington, has been visiting the district. Mrs Papanui, Gladstone, is visiting relatives here. Miss Ina Te Whaiti is on a visit to relatives in Wanganui. Outlet of Lake Opened. The outlet of the lake was successfully opened on Tuesday.
