RED CROSS SOCIETY FIRST MEETING OF YEAR. (“Times-Aae" Special.) The first meeting of the year of the general committee of the local subcentre of the Red Cross Society was held on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs Sharp presiding over a good attendance. Arrangements were made for the annual meeting to be held in March. It was reported that the response to the appeal sent out by the headquarters at Wellington for old linen had been very good. The Centre’s report of Red Cross activities throughout Wairarapa showed very satisfactory results in connection with the work carried out during the latter part of last year. Members were very interested in a letter received from Sister Molly Cundy, who is again serving overseas. A framed photograph of Sister Cundy, presented by her mother, is to be hung in the Red Cross Society’s rooms. It was announced that sewing meetings had commenced a fortnight ago, and that work was proceeding satisfactorily. It was stated that new helpers would be welcomed as there is much ground to be covered this year. The card parties are to commence next Monday and the proceeds will be devoted to the purchase of books for prisoners of war. The V.A. classes in sanitation, and hygiene recommenced last Tuesday. Women's Institute. The Kahutara Women’s Institute members met on. Tuesday in the Kahutara Hall, Mrs Hood, Senr., presiding over a fair attendance. Miss Wolters, president of the Wairarapa Federation, who was welcomed by Mrs Hood, gave an interesting talk on Women’s Institute activities. She was accorded a vote of thanks. Nominations tor the incoming com- ! mittee were received. The bottled plums comoetition resulted as follows: Mrs D. Wilson 1, Mrs F. Hood 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Pottinger and D. Wilson. COSY THEATRE “TIME OUT FOR RHYTHM.” “Time Out for Rhythm,” an excellent musical comedy, with Rosemary Lane, Rudy Vallee-and Anne Miller in the leading roles, will head the nrogramme at the Cosy Theatre tonight. An additional attraction is “Glamour Boy,” a splendid picture featuring Jackie Cooper and Walter Abel.
